Tribute Wall

I am hoping one way or another, that this posting will make it back to Sgt. Johnathan K. Peney's family. My Name is Sarah Marley, I have never met this young man prior to his death. Although I wear a fallen soldier bracelet with his name, Rank, Platoon, and his date of death every single day. I am a stranger to his family but I feel like I have some kind of connection wearing this bracelet. Last night was Christmas night 2011. I couldn't help but think of his family on Christmas day with out there Husband/Son. So I got on the computer and googled his name. I found a website where his mother wrote to him. As I sat there reading this aloud to my husband and myself we couldn't help but to tear up. I have a brother and step brother serving our country and it is dear to my heart. This family has made the ultimate sacrifice. They lost a seemingly wonderful young man, someone who deserved to spend more time with his family. Like his mother said, we do not give soldiers the respect they deserve anymore. It's sad that our country has lost sight of how important these people are. Even the ones that have passed away, they are still making a difference. They are the ones behind our freedom! My heart goes out to this family. I hope you have been able to smile again, as I'm sure he would want. Maybe you can get some comfort from knowing that someone out there PROUDLY wears a fallen soldier bracelet with your Husband/Sons name on it.

My deepest prayers and condolences go out to Jon's mom and wife. I just found out about this today and was deeply saddened. I remember the 1st time we talked to one another in Basic Training all i could think of was this kid has alot of life in him. I watched Jon mature as a soldier in basic and AIT. The one thing that stuck out to me about him was is loving spirit and his zest to help others. I watched as he went through tough times helping his Battle Buddy CPL Javier Paredes (RIP MY BROTHER) as to where others would have given up Jon continued to push forward in making sure Javier was on top of things. This loss is truly painful and the Army has definitely lost one of the great ones.
