    Gary Williams Jones

    October 5, 1949 - May 23, 2008

    Mr. Gary Williams Jones - SAVANNAH - Mr. Gary Williams Jones was born in Savannah, Georgia on October 5, 1949 to Mr. and Mrs. Julius Jones Jr. At an early age, he was baptized at Litway Baptist Church in Savannah, GA. He attended public schools in Washington D.C., Landsthul Germany, and Chatham County (Savannah, GA). He was a 1968 graduate of Sol C. Johnson High School in Thunderbolt, GA. He graduated from Vocational Tech Mechanical School in 1970 as the # l student in Savannah,, GA, and was rated the top student for mechanical troubleshooting in Savannah, GA and at the Chrysler Corporation in Detroit, Michigan. Mr. Jones attended Savannah State College. He served in the US Army from July 24, 1970 to July 23, 1973. He also served in the GA National Guard until June 22, 1976. He was accredited in several degrees of expertise including: ATP 21-114, wheel vehicle Maint. Course, Track Vehicle Mech. #20, and the Army Maint. Mgt. System. His skills were highly recognized among his peers. He completed an eight week course in two weeks. His knowledge was vital to the US Army and because of this; he was not allowed to leave the country or to fight in the Vietnam War. Mr. Jones was one of the primary counselors in the US Army and received certificates for teaching classes in: Code of Conduct, Military Justice, Geneva Convention, and Benefits of Honorable Discharge. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, MM Badge (M-16 Rifle), and Expert Badge (M-14 Rifle). Even when Mr. Jones served as a reservist, the US Army requested his skill to train new Army recruits. After his service ended as a reservist, he was employed with the City of Savannah, GA (1973), Wrenn Bros (1980), and the International Longshoreman Association (1983-2008). Mr. Gary Williams Jones is survived by his wife Donna Miller-Jones, a son Sedrick Baliem and a daughter Monica Jones, his mother Margaret W. Jones, mother-in-law Mary Miller, brothers Claude Jones and Marvin Jones, sisters Cheryl Douse, Martha Mitchell,(Charles), Yolanda Wolfolk,(Anthony) Carolyn Chisholm,(Wesley) and Denise Norris,(Timothy), sister-in-laws Angela Miller-Singleton,(Stephen), Dr. Quentina Miller-Fields,(Eric), and Theresa Ann Miller, brother-in-laws Stephen Singleton, Eric Fields, one uncle, seven aunts, three grand aunts, and one grand uncle, and a host of relatives and friends.Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., on Saturday May 31, 2008 at Mt. Hermon Baptist Church, 911 Atlantic Avenue. Interment: Greenwich section of Bonaventure Cemetery
