    Vernell Walker

    August 27, 1934 - March 30, 2008

Mrs. Vernell Smith Walker, 73, entered into eternal rest, on Sunday March 30, 2008 at her home following a brief illness. The Johnson County native was born on August 27, 1934 to the late Charlie and Eva Reese. The family relocated to Chatham County in 1940 and Vernell was educated in the Chatham County public school system. Vernell was Baptized at the Macedonia Baptist Church in Sandfly at an early age and served in the choir and on the usher board during her youth. Her dedication to the Lord continued during her adulthood where she served as Treasurer for the Usher Board and as a faithful member of the Macedonia Deaconess Board. Family, friends, and flowers were the highlight of Vernell's life following her retirement. Her days were filled with encouraging her children, supporting her friends, and nurturing her flower garden. She is survived by her six children: Roy Reese, Leroy Maxwell Jr. (Johnnie), Kenneth Maxwell (Dena), Rev. Anthony Maxwell (Renee), Belinda Reddick (William), Kimberly Williams (James Earl) and the Walker children, eighteen grandchildren, and twenty-one great grandchildren. A Goddaughter, Terri Reed. Six sisters: Aldra Beard (Tommy), Sally Golden, Dorothy Martin, Brenda Williams (Ronald), Erma Maxwell, and Eva Jones. Three Brothers: Eddie Holsey, Donald Reese (Eva) and Charles Reese (Joann). Three sister-in-laws, Loretta Reese Harris, Mary Sumter, and Betsy Milton. Four aunts: Claudia Martin, Patterson, New Jersey, Beatrice Hightower, Maggie Linder (Rev. Lester Linder) and Marie Pullen (John) all of Wrightsville, Georgia. A host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. A special cousin: James Willis. Funeral services will be held 1:00 p.m., Saturday, April 5, 2008 at Speedwell United Methodist Church, 7259 Skidaway Road. Interment, Eugenia Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family request that remembrances be made to The American Cancer Society. Reposing at the church from 11:00 a.m. until the hour of service.
